Baker Cabin Open House
Open House and Docents
- Saturday, May 11, 2024, 11 am – 2 pm
Open House days continue at Baker cabin in 2024 to share site history with visitors and demonstrate pioneer skills to those who stop in and see the buildings. The original log cabin and the historic Pioneer Church, located in Carver, Ore., will be open with docents on hand to answer questions.
What’s there to see:
- Baker Cabin – a genuine log cabin built in 1856, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Baker family traveled to this site on the Oregon Trail, and their homesite today offers a glimpse into the daily life of pioneers of that time.
- Pioneer Church – a simple country church built in nearby Logan in 1895, was moved to this site in the 1960s. The wooden interior offers a charming woodland chapel setting for quiet reflection, intimate concerts, or weddings and other special events.
- 4-Acre grounds – a green lawn, mature trees, and the historic buildings together comprise a great location for a casual walk, picnic, or relaxing time in nature. It’s a great photo spot for family pictures. A .6-mile loop trail takes hikers up onto the forested hillside through parts of the Bakers’ quarry, which later would become the setting for some Twilight movie locations.
