If you are running a heritage organization with limited resources (who isn’t?), here are some ways to make sure your events get noticed, brought to you by Tracy Klas, CCHC’s marketing consultant.
Plan and Promote your Event
Step 1. Determine your event goals and objectives
Step 2. Assemble your team including volunteers
Step 3. Establish an event budget
Step 4. Choose date & venue
Step 5. Select the speakers
Step 6. Create a Facebook post under “Events/ Create an Event”
Step 7. Once you publish your event, share it with all sponsors and talent involved behind the scenes, even volunteers. “Share” to community pages and if you use other social media outlets , duplicate and post events to those sites as well. Always keep your website up to date.
Post one time on the weekend, then share events Monday Mornings Wednesday Evenings and Friday Afternoons. These are peak times for viewing.
Items to include in your Social Media posts:
EVENT TITLE
DATE AND TIME
COST IF TICKETED
PHOTO/ BANNER
YOUR WEBSITE URL
LIST YOUR SPONSORS? TALENT AND ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES PLANNED
KEEP SENTENCES SHORT AND TO THE POINT, Remember, this is a social media engagement for quick info and save the date. Don’t create long posts that read like articles, more like somthing you would remember at a glance.
PHOTOS ARE POWERFUL.
ALWAYS CREATE EVENT FROM THE VENUES HOMEPAGE < NOT YOUR PERSONAL PAGE.
AFTER YOU PUBLISH IT < GO BACK TO IT FROM YOUR PERSONAL PAGE AND SHARE AND SEND INVITES.
DON’T FORGET TO TELL YOUR SPONSORS, VOLUNTEERS, TALENTS ECT, TO ALSO PLEASE SHARE THE EVENT!
