Steiner Cabin Tours
The Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum (MHCCM) invites the public to attend its
annual Steiner Cabins Tour on Saturday, August 8, 2026. This popular fundraising event offers
a rare opportunity to visit five privately owned Steiner cabins and the former St. John Catholic
Church, built in 1937, by Henry Steiner. The self-guided driving tour is in the Hoodland area.
Each year, the tour features a different selection of cabins built by master craftsman
Henry Steiner and his family. Visitors will experience the unique architectural features that
have made Steiner cabins iconic, including log doors, half-log staircases, handrails fashioned
from bent tree limbs, and distinctive basalt fireplaces. Cabin owners will be on hand to share
the history and special features of their homes.
Tickets go on sale July 1, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. Purchase them online at
www.mthoodmuseum.org, for $60 each. All processing fees are included. Ticket purchasers
must be a member of the museum. The $30 membership fee can be added at the time of
purchase. With attendance limited to 300, the event traditionally sells out quickly.
The tour begins at the Alpine Events Center, 73365 U.S. Highway 26, Rhododendron.
Please note these are historical structures and are not ADA accessible.
Between 1927 and 1953, the Steiner family built approximately 100 cabins and two
churches in the Mt. Hood area. About 84 of these structures remain today, many carefully
preserved by private owners.
Proceeds from the Steiner Cabin Tour support the daily operations of the nonprofit Mt.
Hood Cultural Center & Museum which helps preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Mt.
Hood region. For more information, visit www.mthoodmuseum.org.
